The University of South Africa (Unisa) has called on all of its students and staff members to get vaccinated. The university has also implemented an on-campus Covid-19 antigen rapid testing and vaccination programme that has been organised by the university's Campus Health Clinic.
The university will require students, particularly those who visit its campuses regularly to provide proof that they have been vaccinated or have been tested.
Unisa Vice-Chancellor, Prof Puleng LenkaBula says that taking the vaccination jab is right thing to do, particularly when one considers that the majority of students have not attended in-person classes in over two years.
She adds that her vision for the institution going into 2022 includes the implementation of the ten catalytic niche areas of research, energy and aeronautics among others.
LenkaBula also says that the university has taken measures to ensure that students receive data and access devices. The university also aims to ensure that the quality of participation and teaching on its campuses is not deterred.
Prior to this, Unisa's on-campus Covid-19 antigen rapid testing and vaccination programme for staff and students ran from 13 October and will run until 17 December 2021.
