Corruption Watch requests accountability following its findings of alleged mismanagement of Ters funds meant for workers.

Even though the Unemployment Insurance Fund paid out billions of rands to companies, not all employees received their Ters payments.

UIF's Acting Commissioner Marsha Bronkhorst announced that auditors are currently investigating into this matter to find out which employers did not pay their workers. Once they do, they intend to report it to the police.

Those employers will be charged with fraud and corruption.

These investigations took place after the UIF received complaints from employees stating that they either did not receive their Ters payments or that their employers were claiming funds from the UIF while they were working and receiving a salary.

The report done by Corruption Watch claimed that the private security companies, food and beverage services, fuel sales, and construction were most affected by these irregularities.

However, the report was only based on 126 complaints, which is why the UIF can not be certain that these are the affected sectors.

The Fund is doing a thorough investigation to pinpoint the employers involved.

A fraud hotline was launched by the UIF for people to anonymously call in if they suspect fraud with regards to these Ters payments within their place of work.

Thus far 20 cases have been placed with the South African Police Service to investigate possible corrupt activities by employers.

Not only were some workers not paid what was due to them, but some people also claimed benefits for people who were dead, underaged and even incarcerated. These cases are also being investigated.
