As the disastrous floods had engulfed Durban, many lives have been lost and the Education Sector has a lot to deal with in the aftermath.
The Education Department paid a visit to one of the schools in Ntuzuma, North of Durban.
This school had been set alight during the July Unrest 2021 with Isiphosethu Primary School suffering further in the floods.
Department of Basic Education (DBE) Minister, Angie Motshekga, has shared that she looks forward to the education staff room being swiftly constructed.
A contractor has been allocated to the schools already and the Minister has encouraged locals to be used in this project.
Motshekga has instructed the school’s Principal to monitor and supervise the construction project to avoid delays.
In an interview KZN Education Minister Kwazi Mshengu said:
We have noted some of the challenges of the school. I think we need to attend to the issue with the school’s prefabs.
It had been revealed that the school is currently utilizing prefabs for teaching and learning.
Mshengu has shared that the prefabs need to be replaced with brick and mortar, as they are only used in emergency cases.
