The Education Department is urging parents to apply for enrolment for the 2023 school year before the deadline of 15 April 2022.
This system is mainly for Grade 1 and Grade 8, other grades that are in between will be treated as transfers between schools.
WCED has confirmed that transfers to schools will only be considered in instances whereby the learner has relocated.
The following documents are required when applying for enrolment:
- The last official school Report Card
- ID, Birth certificate, passport of the learner; or
- A study permit (foreign learners); OR
- Proof of application (study permit)
- Immunisation card (Road to Health Chart) [Primary Schools Only]
- Proof of Residence (Rates account, Lease agreement, an affidavit confirming residence). Note: Retail statements and bank statements are not accepted.
Regarding lost and stolen documents, a police affidavit will be required.
In a statement, the department said:
Applying after this date could affect their choice of placement and it will affect our planning.
Should you apply after the closing date, your application will be deemed as a late application, and preference will be given to applications submitted timeously.

WCED has hosted a number of pop-up admission support tables at shopping malls and schools throughout the province during this period.
Some schools have given access to communities to utilize their resources and district offices are also open for support.
