The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has reiterated that social grant recipients may make their withdrawals at alternative payout points.
Sassa’s spokesperson, Pasika Letsatsi, said recipients can go to grocery chain stores such as Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers, and also bank ATMs.
In an interview, Sethokga added:
Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant recipients ought to get a pin code from the Post Office so that they can access their grant at any other alternative collection point.
It is said that as long as one has the pin code, they don’t always have to wait for the 20th of every month as they can access their money on the 10th or the 15th or the 16th or at any time.
This includes recipients who are paid through mobile paypoints have an option of obtaining a pin code and to access their money through other access points on any day of the month.
Sassa has encountered challenges in relation to its mobile sites which are sometimes located between villages. According to Sassa, they have had the challenge of running out of money in these sites as there’s a certain amount of money available, whereas,
It has been found that people flock to these sites in large groups, which results in Sassa running out of money. Recipients are then turned away, with some having had to travel.
Sethokga said that older people and people living with disabilities will always be prioritised at mobile pay points.
