The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is responsible for distributing social grants to beneficiaries across the country.

The agency typically distributes grants on a monthly basis and beneficiaries are able to withdraw their grant payments at anytime after the payment date.

Here are the Sassa grant payment dates for March 2023:

  • Older Person's Grants - Thursday, 2 March 2023
  • Disability Grants - Friday, 3 March 2023
  • Child Support and other grants - Monday, 6 March 2023

Many beneficiaries were unable to collect their Older Persons grant as they stated that there was no money on their Sassa cards. This left many Sassa pensioners concerned about how they would cope without their grants.

There has now been a response from Sassa who say this was due to a technical glitch experienced by Postbank but the issue is now resolved.

Sassa has reminded beneficiaries that they do not need to collect their grant on the exact payment date. Once the grant is paid, the money will remain available until the beneficiary chooses to collect their grant.

Anyone who was unable to collect their grant in the last few days can now return to a payment point to get their money.

Beneficiaries can collect their funds using many different methods which include collecting money at ATMs, retail stores such as Shoprite, Checkers, U-Save, Pick 'n Pay and Boxer stores.

In order to collect grant payments, beneficiaries must provide their ID and cellphone numbers and they must ensure that this is the same cellphone number that they used to register on the Sassa database, as a confirmation pin will be sent to this number to prevent fraud.

Sassa has encouraged beneficiaries of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to provide their bank of choice as a preferred payment method to be able to access and collect their monies from anywhere.

SRD grant beneficiaries have also been warned not to collect their grant payments at the South African Post Office (SAPO), as the post office is no longer an outlet for grant payment collection.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has revealed how grant beneficiaries can get a brand new gold card. Many beneficiaries are required to collect new gold cards as the ones they are currently using are set to expire in the coming months.

Sassa gold cards work in the same way as regular bank cards. Beneficiaries in possession of a gold card can withdraw money at ATMs or at retail stores or any supermarket of their choice.

Beneficiaries whose current gold cards are expiring can collect a new Sassa gold card at a Post Office branch. Sassa explained that only beneficiaries whose cards are set to expire in March 2023 should visit a Post Office to collect a new card.

Sassa manages grants and allowances for groups in South African society needing assistance. This includes grants for children, the older persons grants and disability grants. SASSA also manages the R350 grant for the special relief of distress during the Covid-19 crisis.

SASSA payments are made in various ways. They can be paid through a bank account, through your SASSA card, through a Post Office or through CashSend. Your SASSA grant is there to assist you with your basic needs.

With the introduction of the SASSA R350 grant, a large number of SRD SASSA application were rolling in, as the website serves many purposes. Not only can you do your SASSA application for R350 on there, you can also check your check your SASSA SRD status.
