Forte High School, a no-fee school in Dobsonville, Johannesburg has improved its matric pass rate from 52% in 2017 to 94% in the 2021 academic year. Many have wondered how the school could achieve such results within the four year period.

The school's principal, Mukosi Mudhavi says that there are many factors that go into achieving such success.

Mudhavi told eNCA

It's simple things, basic things and it's hard work. We are committed to seeing our learners succeed.

The principal says it's important to instill discipline in the learners and that the educators are prepared well for their lessons.

Learners are provided with feedback for all of their tests and assessments and Mudhavi says this helps in their development.

"We love our learners. Our understanding is that all learners that passes through the corridors of Forte High School should know that it's possible for them to succeed and pass with quality results." said the principal.

He says that the community, teachers, school staff and all learners know what is expected of them and are involved in helping the matriculants achieve the best results.

The school is said to only celebrate pass rates above 90% as they believe that anything lower than that indicates that they didn't perform well.

Learners in the community face many socio-economic challenges which include poor nutrition. However, the Forte High School does receive help from the Department of Basic Education so that the learners are provided with meals at the school.

The principal says that the teachers at the school understand that some learners do not have the necessary support from parents at their homes and they do their best to ensure that learners get all the support they need in the classroom.

The school achieved an 80% Bachelor's pass rate, which enables students to pursue a tertiary education.

Financial Mail Editor, Rob Rose attributes the success of this school to the management of it. He says that the leaders of the school are doing well in preparing the students so that they can perform well.

The principal says that even though the school lacks resources, they ensure that they maximize all the resources that they have access to.
