Parents and guardians who have not yet accepted or rejected school offers from the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) have until the end of Friday to do so. These school offers are for children to attend grade 1 and grade 8 in 2023.

Here's how to confirm or decline a WCED school offer:

  1. Go to the WCED admissions website
  2. Scroll down and select “Apply Online”.
  3. Since you are already registered on the website, fill in your login details.
  4. Proceed to accept or decline the school placement offers.

Parents are being encouraged to accept placement offers from schools, as not accepting these offers could result in another child losing a place.

After 17 June, parents and guardians will only have three days to accept a place if they are offered a place at a school.

Certified hardcopies must be submitted to the school where the learner will be attending within seven days of the parent confirming the place at the school.

After the offer is accepted or rejected, the department will go into their system and have the decisions made entered into it . From here, spaces will open for learners who were placed on waiting lists.

The applications which parents and guardians did not attend to will also be assessed and the system will auto-confirm the first successful offer.

A few days later, schools will then review their admission lists and contact parents who were placed on the waiting list offering spaces.

The Head of Department, Brent Walters, said:

There are many parents/guardians who are understandably anxious about their child not having a confirmed place at a school yet. The school holidays will further delay the confirmation process as schools will be closed.

School will close on 24 June until 18 July and when opened on the 19th, these schools will make sure that any available spots are filled for the 2023 school year.

Parents who have not yet applied for 2023 are urged to apply as soon as possible. They can call or visit a district office for assistance where they will be placed on the WCED’s late application list.
