The University of South Africa (Unisa) has recently announced that in-person graduation ceremonies will resume on the university's campuses on 27 June 2022, and will run until 5 August 2022.

The venues and dates have been arranged in the following order:

  • First series: Polokwane, 27 and 28 June 2022
  • Second series:  Muckleneuk Campus (Tshwane), 1 to 8 July 2022
  • Third series: Cape Town, 11 to 13 July 2022
  • Fourth series: Durban (1), 18 to 22 July 2022
  • Fifth series: East London, 27 and 28 July 2022
  • Sixth series: Durban (2), 1 to 5 August 2022

The university further also went on to say that students will receive personalised invitations to these graduation ceremonies.

Unisa has also stated that they apologise for the inconvenience caused by the unforeseen postponement of the previous graduation ceremonies.

In March earlier this year, Unisa had to promptly postpone their graduation ceremonies due to a labour dispute between the university’s management and organised labour, regarding salary adjustments by the university’s council.

At the time, Unisa stated that while the issue had since been resolved they had to take into account the declaration by Organised Labour that the industrial action could only be ceased when the employees have received their payment.

The labour dispute between Unisa and the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (NEHAWU) resulted in the suspension of graduation ceremonies after protesting members of the labour union shut down the university during a graduation event.
