While delivering the 2022 Budget Speech, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced an additional R32 Billion allocation will be provided in financial support to current bursary holders and first-year students under the National Student Financial Aid Scheme.
The Finance Minister has confirmed that any shortfall will be funded from within the Baseline of the Department of Education.
Godongwana has recognised the hard work of our frontline workers, including teachers and healthcare workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Finance Department has added R24.6 Billion for the provincial education departments to adjust the shortfalls in the compensation of teachers.
Additionally, R15.6 Billion has been allocated to provincial health departments to respond to Covid-19 and also compensate for any shortfalls in the department's essential goods and services.
Recently, the South African Human Rights Commission had pointed out that infrastructure and sanitation were a problem in the Eastern Cape province.
However, in this years’ budget speech, the Finance Minister said:
We will work with other national departments in the provinces of Eastern Cape and Northern Cape to pilot a revised approach to infrastructure delivery.
The Minister informed the National Assembly that a provincial allocation of R17.5 Billion has been set aside in this budget for infrastructure projects.
The Finance Minister added that he is looking forward to engaging in specific proposals in this regard.
