Educationalists are happy that learners have gone back to full-time school attendance this week, overcrowding remains amongst other challenges that the education sector is faced with.
This came after consultations between various consultations amongst stakeholders in the education sector and parliament having announced that schools ought to put an end to rotational learning immediately.
Thus, the Education Department sent learners back to school, scrapping social distancing and encouraging the education community to continue using masks.
In a Newzroom Africa live interview, National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT) CEO Godwin Khosa said:
One best way in which we can eliminate or reduce challenges, it is to have our kids vaccinated, particularly those who are above 12 years of age because they are eligible for vaccinations.
Khosa highlighted other countries that have done the same such as India and Zimbabwe, noting that it’s exciting that learners have gone back to the classroom full-time.
The organisation has been propagating for learners to go back to school because of the huge gaps.
NECT has encouraged learners to be vaccinated and for all necessary precautions to be taken at this point in time.
According to research, adolescents are less likely to suffer severe effects of Covid-19, and health officials do say that it's important to vaccinate them to keep schools open.
Khosa said learners ought to be helped reinforce the use of masks and it's very important that learners must continue to do so.
