The schooling community is still shocked by an incident that has led to the loss of two young lives.
Lekgalong Primary School in Ga-Rankuwa Zone 1 lost two of its young educators due to being gruesomely shot to death on 21 March 2022.
Gauteng Education had received news that the suspect is the lover of one of the educators.
In a statement, the Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi said:
We are devastated at this gruesome act of criminality that has taken the lives of two of our youngest and brightest educators.
Lesufi has extended his condolences to the families of the victims and the department has also provided the families and the school with Psycho-Social support.
This is concerning for the department, as they have been losing their educators to crime in this first term of the school calendar.
As the department visited these families, at one of the victim's homestead the Education Minister said there’s an urgent need to strategically review their programmes in dealing with lawlessness in South Africa.
The department has been facing challenges of criminal acts and police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
