The Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) is calling on young South Africans between the ages of 18 and 35 who are not in education or training, not receiving any form of government grant, as well as young people living with disabilities to apply to become a school assistant.

The BEEI is part of the presidential youth employment initiative which seeks to decrease the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through the presidential employment stimulus, the department aims to provide youth with employment and training opportunities in the education sector within five months, starting from 1 November 2021 until 31 March 2022.

Those applicants who are hired will work in schools around the country as General School Assistants and Education Assistants.

Successful applicants will receive training to equip them for their job and future employment.

Applications close today, 10 October 2021. So APPLY NOW!

The requirements for these job vacancies are:

  • You must be between the ages of 18 and 35
  • Live within walking distance from the school you wish to work at
  • You must not be working, studying or training both full-time and part-time
  • Only one opportunity can be taken up per house
  • Must not be receiving a government grant, which includes a NSFAS or Funza Lushaka bursary
  • Clear criminal record
  • Must have Matric

Once hired, you will then work for 5 months starting in November. Assistants will receive a stipend of R3817 per month.

General assistants have helped with providing psychosocial support to the youth, which has helped them identify learners that are at risk for dropping out of school and ensured that the DBE can intervene before it is too late.

Education assistants also help to maintain discipline in the classroom and assist students with understanding the course work.

Those who are hired may be placed in the following positions:

  • Teaching Assistant - Curriculum
  • Teaching Assistant - ICT/eCadres
  • Teaching Assistant - Reading Champions
  • General School Assistant - Child & Youth Care Worker
