The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed that grant payments for May 2025 will begin later than usual, with beneficiaries receiving their money from the second week of the month.
In contrast to April 2025 - when grant payments started on 2 April - May grant payments will only commence on 6 May 2025.
Why Are Sassa Grants Being Paid Later in May 2025?
Sassa generally initiates social grant payments from the second day of each month. However, the agency does not process grant payments on weekends or public holidays.
This means that if 2 May falls just before or on a weekend or public holiday, payments will only be processed on the next working day.
Additionally, Sassa aims to issue grants on consecutive working days. While in some months grants are paid on either side of a weekend, all May 2025 grants will be paid on consecutive weekdays.
