The University of Johannesburg has made astounding achievement and has received recognition in the global society.

In an interview with Professor Maria Frahim-Arp, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research & Internationalisation at UJ said:

To come 69th out of so many universities is an extraordinary achievement.

UJ has improved its global ranking in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings by climbing 23 places from 92 in 2021.

In the rankings, 1 406 institutions participate and are recognized across the world for their social and economic impact as per the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This set of 17 wide-ranging goals is central to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a universal call to protect the planet and its people.

Most universities target these goals in terms of teaching and research whilst positively impacting communities.

As part of the SDGs, the university has ranked third for poverty alleviation and eighth for decent work and economic growth.

Frahim-Arp added that as a university they’re excited to be able to make a meaningful contribution.

The university has various programmes that respond to student needs in the form of grants

“In this regard, I look forward to the Council on Higher Education (CHE)’s upcoming audit of our University between the 16th – 20th May 2022,” said Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Tshilidzi Marwala.
