Specific skills within South Africa's Information Technology (IT) sector remain in high demand. This is according to the latest Job Market Trends report from Pnet.

The Pnet Monthly Job Market Trends report for April 2025 shows there is a consistent need for IT professionals in roles such as Data Engineers, Java Developers, and User Experience Designers. These jobs also come with competitive salaries which are based on experience and expertise.

How Much IT Professionals Earn In SA

The Pnet report for April 2025 identified IT roles that continue to be actively sought after by South African companies. 

These include Data Engineers earning a market-related monthly Cost-to-Company (CTC) salary ranging between R42,943 to R59,110. Java Developers have a CTC salary range of R42,946 to R56,610 per month while User Experience Designers have a monthly CTC salary between R39,008 and R48,717.

South Africa's IT Sector Insights

The report shows that the average IT professional stays in their position for two years and nine months. It further indicates that 48.4% of IT professionals are willing to relocate for the right opportunity while 63.3% of jobseekers live in Gauteng.

Pnet's findings show that 56.4% of IT job seekers fall under Employment Equity categories. When it comes to education, 51.2% of candidates hold a tertiary qualification in IT.

The report also indicates that 62% of the active IT job seeker pool are male. The trend towards remote work is also evident within the IT sector, with Pnet reporting an 11% increase in demand for remote roles in this field.
