Millions of vulnerable people rely on Sassa grants to purchase basic goods every month. One of these Sassa grants is the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.

The SRD grant, which is also known as the R350 grant, was introduced to assist SA residents with no regular job or other grant income. The grant is governed under the Social Assistance Act, providing financial assistance to vulnerable members of society who need financial support - in the form of social security benefits.

SRD Grant Payment Dates For December

Sassa grant payments for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant are now made at the end of the month. However, with Christmas at the end of the month, grants will be paid earlier.

SRD grant payments for December will therefore be made from 18 December until 22 December.

The processing of grants take place during the latter stages of the month as Sassa conducts various verification checks to ensure the grant applicant meets the qualifying criteria for the grant.

If you are a Sassa grant beneficiary of a permanent grant, we also have information on the Sassa grant payment schedule for December, for permanent grants.

Sassa distributes the following permanent grants: Care Dependency Grant, Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant, Disability Grant, Grant-In-Aid, Older Persons Grant and War Veterans Grant.

Sassa grant payments are usually done in the first and second week of the month. Here's the grant payment dates for December:

  • Older Persons Grant - 1 December 2023
  • Disability Grant - 4 December 2023
  • Children's Grants -  5 December 2023

Sassa distributes grants in terms of the Social Assistance Act. Under the framework of the act, Sassa oversees the implementation of various social assistance programs. This includes the distribution of social grants to vulnerable people living in South Africa.

It is very efficient and easy for you if your Sassa grant can be paid into your bank account. Remember that the bank account must be in your name as Sassa cannot pay the grant into a bank account that is in someone else's name.
