The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) distributes more than 18 million permanent social grants every month. Beneficiaries of permanent Sassa grants receive their money during the first week of every month.

Permanent grants distributed by Sassa include the Older Persons grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Child support grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Care grant and the Child Support grant top-up.

In May 2023, grant payments will commence on Wednesday, 3 May 2023 with the distribution of the older person's grants. This will then be followed by the distribution of the disability grants and the children's support grants later in the week.

Grant Payment Dates For May 2023

Older Persons Grant - 4 May 2023

Disability Grant - 5 May 2023

Children's Grants - 8 May 2023

Grant payment dates refer to days on which the beneficiary can collect their money at a post office branch or a designated pay point. Grant beneficiaries can also collect their money at several retail stores including Pick N Pay, Boxer, Usave, Shoprite and Checkers.

Alternatively, beneficiaries can choose to have their grant paid directly into their bank account from Sassa. This is an attractive option for many beneficiaries as it allows them to access their money at any time.

There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed.

Sassa assured beneficiaries that their money will still be available even if they do not collect it on the set payment date. As once the money has been paid it will remain in the beneficiaries account until it is needed.
