NSFAS Appeals To Open Later Than Expected

If you have applied and have had your student funding application declined, you still have the option to lodge an appeal on your application. According to a statement released to higher learning institutions throughout the country, NSFAS appeals are now open will close on 23 February 2022.  

NSFAS has recently stated that they are currently working on key funding requirements for the 2022 academic year. 

The bursary scheme has further stated that it will require certain inputs from higher learning institutions, particularly as it relates to the following issues:

(a) 2022 Funding Lists, Appeals 
(b) Qualification Course Information 
(c) MOU return date 
(d) Upfront payment 
(e) Registration upload process

Pending funding approval, NSFAS will reveal the outcome of approved applicants who will be released in groups. Institutions will also be issued with an approved list of funded returning students for the 2022 academic year

Thus according to NSFAS they will start processing registration data from the beginning of March 2022 and the first payments as soon as they receive tranche in April 2022.

Here is how to appeal your NSFAS application:

1. Click here to visit the myNSFAS website.
2. Log in to your myNSFAS account.
3. Select the 'Track Funding Progress' option.
4. Click on the 'Submit Appeal' tab.
5. Once you are on the 'Application Appeal' page, you can see the reason for your unsuccessful application status
6. You are then able to choose the appeal reason
7. Then upload certified supporting documents to support your reason
8. Then click 'Submit Appeal'
9. You may now track the progress of the appeal on your myNSFAS account.

It is important to note that NSFAS applicants who want to appeal will also need to complete and download a relevant propensity letter.

3. N+2 students with disability (PDF)
4. Registered for 50% or less (final year course credits) to complete (PDF)
