The University of South Africa (Unisa) is deeply concerned about fraudulent scams that offer to alter students' academic records. The university has warned that students who are found to have participated in this will face serious consequences.

Unisa explained that these scams involve individuals promising to change students' disciplinary status to improve their marks. They explain that this is compromising the integrity of Unisa's qualifications.

These solicitations are part of a scam operation aimed at exploiting students and compromising the integrity of Unisa’s qualifications.

Unisa strongly condemns these activities and says a thorough investigation with law enforcement agencies has been launched to identify everyone involved in these scams.

"We strongly condemn these illicit activities and are taking immediate steps to investigate the matter thoroughly. We are also working closely with law enforcement agencies to identify those responsible."

The university emphasised that it has a zero-tolerance policy for fraud and dishonesty. They warned that students caught using such services will face immediate expulsion.

Unisa reminds students of its zero tolerance for any form of fraudulent or dishonest activity. Students who have been found to have acquired such services will be immediately expelled from the university.

Unisa has called on students to be cautious and report any such solicitations to the Ethics Hotline on 0800 075 278 or via e-mail at unisa@thehotline.co.za to avoid academic and legal consequences.

They concluded that providing personal information to unauthorised individuals not only jeopardises your academic standing but could also lead to severe legal consequences.

Unisa Applications Extended

Applications to study at South Africa's largest distance learning university, Unisa, is still open for the 2024 academic year.

Unisa initially closed their 2024 applications on 13 October, giving applicants a month and a half to apply. The University then announced the reopening of applications with this application period closing on 17 November.

The importance of sticking to the application deadlines cannot be overstated, as missing these dates could potentially delay enrollment for the next academic year.
