The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed the grant amounts for May 2025. Millions of South Africans rely on these social grants to support themselves and their families.
Sassa grants include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support Grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid. In addition to permanent grants, Sassa also pays out the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, commonly referred to as the R370 Sassa grant.

Sassa Grant Increases 2025
Grant increases for 2025 were implemented on 1 April and will be adjusted again on 1 October. These increases were announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana during the 2025 Budget Speech.
Depending on the type of grant, increases range from R30 to R70 to help support vulnerable individuals during the rising cost of living.
Sassa Payment Dates For May 2025
Sassa pays out permanent social grants during the first week of the month, starting on the second working day. It's important to note that payments are not made on weekends or public holidays.
- Older Persons grants: 6 May 2025
- Disability grants: 7 May 2025
- Children’s grants: 8 May 2025
Sassa has encouraged beneficiaries not to rush to withdraw their money on the first day of payment, as funds will remain in their accounts until accessed.
