While you’re enjoying your festivities, don’t forget that you only have two weeks left to apply for next years’ NSFAS funding.
The closing date for NSFAS applications for the 2022 academic year is 7 January 2022.
To be eligible for funding, this is the criteria:
- You are a South African citizen;
- Your combined annual household income does not exceed R350 000 per annum and if you're living with a disability your household income comes to under R600 000 per annum
- You are registering for the first time for an undergraduate qualification at a public university or you are registered at a TVET college for one of the National Certificate Vocational or report 191 programme;
- You are an already registered university student;
- You have passed Grade 9 & 10 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a TVET college;
- You have passed Grade 12 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a university.
If you're a Sassa grant recipient, excluding R350 grant beneficiaries, then you would immediately qualify for a NSFAS bursary. You will however not qualify for the R350 grant if you receive NSFAS allowances.
The NSFAS bursary covers the following:
- Accommodation
- Transport
- Living allowance
- Book allowance
- Incidental/personal care allowance
If you are studying at the University of South Africa (UNISA) you will receive funding for:
- Tuition & registration
- Books (subject to the number of modules registered)
- Personal care allowance
Additionally, people with disabilities are provided with:
- Assistive devices: Devices such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, adapted laptops, etc.
- Support aids: Those who need carers or tutors are assisted with the cost of those professionals
