The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has confirmed the academic eligibility criteria for its student loan programme. This information is crucial for students seeking to benefit from the newly introduced loan system.

NSFAS provides comprehensive funding to eligible students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges Funding covers tuition and registration fees, as well as allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.

The government bursary scheme has released the 2025 Eligibility Criteria and Conditions for the NSFAS Student Loan Scheme, detailing the academic eligibility requirements.

Academic Eligibility Criteria for NSFAS Loans Confirmed

Students must meet the academic eligibility criteria to maintain their NSFAS loan. Failure to do so may result in the loan's withdrawal.

Only academic pathways approved by NSFAS for universities and TVET colleges are eligible for funding.

To ensure continuous funding from the loan scheme, university students must achieve a 60% pass mark in all course modules for each academic term.

TVET College students enrolled in Report 191 courses must pass a minimum of 3 out of 4 subjects per term to maintain funding.

National Certificate (Vocational) TVET college students must have passed at least 5 subjects in the preceding NC(V) level to progress.

A loan may only be awarded to students progressing to the next NC(V) level if they passed at least 5 subjects in the previous NC(V) level.

The academic progression criteria for occupational programmes are determined by individual TVET colleges and communicated to NSFAS. Students should maintain close contact with their institutions to understand these requirements.

NSFAS has reminded stakeholders that these loan scheme funding guidelines will be effective upon endorsement by the Minister.
