Applications to gain access to the bursary offered by the Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) will soon open as the organisation has released it's 2024 applications date. This is a great opportunity for prospective students.

ISFAP provides a bursary to students coming from poor and working class backgrounds and also aims to close the funding gap when it comes to the missing middle. This is why ISFAP also extends their funding to missing middle students.

ISFAP was established in response to the Fees Must Fall Movement and during that time, the then Minister of Higher Education & Training put together a Ministerial Task Team whose job it was to identify operative and funding models to respond to the funding crisis and calls for free education.

So when will ISFAP's 2024 applications open?

ISFAP announced this week that 2024 ISFAP bursary applications will open on 30 May at noon. Applications must be submitted online using the ISFAP apply online site.

On social media, the organisation said:

Are you in Gr12 with a family income between R350,000 and R600,000 and planning to study Engineering, Actuarial, CA, Medicine, IT and Data science? Do you need financial and wrap-around support for your studies? Get your docs ready. Applications open soon! Watch this space!

What are the ISFAP requirements?

To qualify for funding through ISFAP, they are looking for students who have household incomes which range from R0 to R600 000 per year. You will also need to be studying one of the courses ISFAP funds at one of their partner universities.

What does ISFAP cover?

The ISFAP bursary will cover your tuition fees, accommodation fees, food, learning materials, living allowance and you will also receive non-academic support.

This non-academic support includes a project manager, which will guide and assist you on your study journey as well as having tutorial support, life support,  admin support,  life skills training and staff mentors available to you. ISFAP calls this their 'wrap-around support' as their funding goes further than just covering your fees, but your well-being as well.

You can find any information you seek about ISFAP on our website.
