It's no secret that funding your tertiary studies can be tricky. CPUT assists students with accessing a wide variety of financial aid and funding for study-related costs such as fees, accommodation and books. If you're planning on studying at CPUT and need funding, here are some funding options for you to consider.
CPUT Administered Bursaries: Students who wish to apply for University-administered awards, CPUT Scholarship, Merit bursaries, Deans merit bursary from CPUT, must apply at the Financial Aid Office. Application forms for university administered funding is available from the Financial Aid Offices on the Bellville, Cape Town, Mowbray and Wellington campuses. Complete and return the application form by the closing dates, along with the necessary supporting documentation. To access allocated funds students can visit or contact the Financial Aid Office.
CPUT Academic Excellence In Matric: This is for first-year students who achieved an overall matric pass of 80% and are South African citizens. This is a once off bursary worth R4 000. Closing date is 28 February. Find the application here.
External Bursaries: CPUT has provided students with a list of external bursaries and financial support. Click here the access the list.
DHET Bursary Scheme: This is a financial aid programme that provides fully-subsidised funding for poor and working class students at public universities. Applicants must have a combined gross family income of up to R350,000 per annum.
Department of Labour Bursaries: Students with disabilities qualify for (apart from any other bursaries) for bursaries from the Department of Labour and are required to apply directly at the Department for these bursaries.
Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme: Bursaries are available to enable eligible students to complete a teaching qualification in an area of national priority. Read our article on the Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme here.
NSFAS: NSFAS offers fully subsidized free higher education and training for poor and working class South Africans where there is up to R350,000 household income per year. This bursary includes tuition fees, learning materials allowances, transport allowances and living allowances. Visit their website here for more information.

Banks: Many South African banks offer loans for students looking to fund their studies.

CPUT states that is important to note that, "These bursaries are offered by external companies and are not administered or monitored by CPUT or the Financial aid office. Please direct all communication to the company concerned."
The Financial Aid office at CPUT advises undergraduate (National Diploma) students on the various funding options available to them and assists with the application and administration process of various types of funding.
