If you're a student or looking to study at a tertiary institution in Bloemfontein, and you're and seeking accommodation, there are many spaces available for you to choose from.

The accommodation you're looking for could be residences owned by and operated through the institution you're enrolled at, or it could be private accommodation, owned by someone not associated with a university or college.

To secure on-campus accommodation, you would need to apply via your university's website. The eligibility requirements may differ from institution to institution, but typically, accommodation is available to students who reside a certain distance away from the campus.

On-campus residences usually consist of buildings for female students and other buildings for male students, but sometimes it's a co-ed living situation.

If you're studying at the Central University of Technology (CUT), you'll encounter:

  • Ladies Residences: Huis Technikon, Welgemoed
  • Men Residences: Eendrag
  • Mixed Residences: Graduandi House (Postgrad)

If you're studying at the University of the Free State (UFS), you'll encounter:

  • Co-ed residences consisting of male and female students. Although male and female students both form part of co-ed residences, they stay in separate corridors with separate bathroom facilities. Controlled access to blocks/pods and corridors exist.
  • A day residence is a residence that consists of students who live off-campus in private homes, student houses, townhouses, flats, rooms, etc. Students who are members of day residences must arrange their own accommodation off campus, but can enter the day residences to participate in organised student activities.

A few off-campus (private) residences in the Bloemfontein area include:

Female Residences:

  • Mannheim Ladies
    • situated on the corner of King Edward road and Ella streets.

Male Residences:

  • Loggies
    • situated on the corner of Goddard and Saltzman Streets.
  • Mannheim Men
    • situated on the corner of King Edward road and Ella streets.
  • Gymnos
    • accommodates sport students and is situated in Park Road.

When searching for private accommodation, make sure to look at the travelling distance between your institution of choice and the accommodation itself.
