Applications for the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) Special Covid-19 R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant are open and the agency has been processing the applications of millions of applicants.

Applicants are urged to check their application status to see if they have been approved for the R350 grant.

If you have checked your status and it said that your application was declined due to an "Alternative Income Source Indentified" then you may be wondering what this means.

SASSA has said that this application status means that the applicant does not qualify for the R350 grant because they are receiving an income of more than R595 per month. SASSA will have seen that the applicant was receiving more than R595 per month into their bank account.

If you feel like a mistake has been made then you can submit a R350 grant appeal. You have 30 days after being given this reason to do so.

How to Appeal for SASSA Relief Grant Online

  1. Go to Sassa Appeals Website
  2. Enter ID number
  3. Enter telephone number
  4. Lodge appeal

You will need to provide reasons as to why you believe you were declined on an unfair basis. Once you submit an appeal, SASSA will then consider your application again.

Should you have submitted your SRD grant appeal, you will then need to track it.
