SASSA Grants to Increase by R10 from October 2025

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that all social grant beneficiaries will see a R10 increase in their monthly payments starting in October 2025.

This adjustment is in line with the 2025/2026 national budget tabled by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana earlier this year.

The SASSA spokesperson provided details on the new amounts that beneficiaries can expect from October:

  • Old Age Grant: increasing from R2,310 to R2,320
  • Old Age Grant (over 75 years): increasing from R2,330 to R2,340
  • War Veterans Grant: increasing from R2,330 to R2,340
  • Disability Grant: increasing from R2,310 to R2,320
  • Care Dependency Grant: increasing from R2,310 to R2,320

This small increase follows government’s ongoing commitment to provide financial relief to vulnerable groups, while balancing budgetary constraints. The adjustment will ensure that millions of South Africans relying on social grants continue to receive vital support.

SASSA CEO Themba Matlou welcomed the increases and highlighted SASSA's role as a safety net. "This reaffirms government's commitment to protecting the most vulnerable in society, easing financial burden and cushioning them against economic hardships", said Matlou.

Matlou reassurred beneficiaries that their payments would be made in October as normal, and without any interruptions.

The dates for social grant payments in October were also announced today.

  • Old Age Grants will be paid on the 2nd October
  • Disability Grants will be paid on the 3rd October
  • Children's Grants will be paid on 6th October

There are many fake news stories being published on little-known websites claiming that there will be more significant increases in the social grant payments. These should not be believed as they do not come from reputable sources. The media statement about this small increase in SASSA grant amounts was published on the official SASSA account on the X (Twitter) social media platform.
