If you're thinking of applying to the Special Relief of Distress (SRD) grant or have already submitted, should you find yourself wondering how many applications you're allowed to submit, keep reading.
SASSA opened R350 grant applications on 6 August and already, SASSA has received over 6 million applications. This does however highlight the high level of unemployment and poverty in South Africa.
The agency has encouraged applicants to only submit one application, saying:
You only have to apply once on one channel and not many times on every channel. SASSA will only process one application received from each applicant.
Due to SASSA receiving a large amount of applications, sometimes thousands a minute, this has lead to the application channels being slowed down. SASSA has asked applicants to be patient and has said that everyone would get their chance to apply.
If you've applied and you want to check your SRD grant application status, here's how. The application system is overwhelmed which means that it might take a while to reflect your R350 grant application status.
SASSA has however said:
Remember the application system is now processing millions of applications at once. You will be able to view your current status soon.
You can apply for the grant in the following ways:
- SASSA website - https://srd.sassa.gov.za
- Email - srd@sassa.gov.za
- WhatsApp: 082 046 8553 (send a Whatsapp message to this number. Make sure to include your name, surname and ID number in the Whatsapp message. You will then receive a message which will detail the next steps you need to follow.)
- USSD line: Dial *134*7737# and follow the prompts
- GovChat: https://govchat.app/login\
- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/govchat.org
You only need to use one of these channels once.
Once you have submitted your application, you will receive feedback from SASSA. If your application is declined, you can submit an appeal within 30 days of receiving the application outcome.
