SRD Sassa Grant
The Special Relief of Distress (SRD) grant was introduced in response to the effects of the pandemic. So if you’re interested in applying, you might also be wondering which documents are needed to do so and we’re here to help.
Due to R350 grant applications having to be submitted electronically, you won’t need to submit any actual documents.
Sassa has said:
Sassa shall conduct online verification of personal information supplied through other alternative electronic means of data validation and verification. No physical documents are required.
When you apply, you’ll be asked to submit your ID number or your Department of Home Affairs Refugee permit number, if you are a refugee.
The information provided will then be put through databases from the South African Revenue Services, Home Affairs, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). This is to check if you are receiving any other sources of income or grants and if you are, you will then not be approved.
Your ID number is also put through a Fraud Risk Scoring process.
Sassa SRD Grant
In order to access or to have the SASSA SRD Grant application considered for the R350/R370 grant, an applicant must grant consent for SASSA to verify his or her identity, residency, income or social security benefits.
Once applications are approved, SASSA will request confirmation of bank account though a secure site – this will also be done electronically. Any applicant has the right to request confirmation that this request is from SASSA to protect themselves.
Once you’ve submitted your R350 grant application, you will then want to track it which means you will do a SASSA SRD status check. SASSA has opened various ways to track your R350/R370 grant application. They have made it possible for you to do a R350/R370 Rrant status check through WhatsApp or online.
Sassa R370 Grant
Applications for the R350/R370 grant are still open as the grant has been extended many times. At the most recent open of Parliament the President announced that the grant will continue. It is expected that it will be made permanent but for this to happen it will probably be converted to a form of Basic Income Grant.
Once you have applied and been accepted for the R350/R370 Grant you will be paid out for the month if you have not received any significant money into your bank account during that month. If you have earned too much money that month you won't be paid that month but you will be assessed again in the following month. If you qualify in the next month you will be paid out again.
