The topic of online school in South Africa has seen an increase in relevancy with our lives becoming more digitalised every day.

It's obvious that online schools differ in many ways to normal face to face schooling but what are the differences in curriculum?

The different curriculum types are:

  • Curriculum Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS)
  • Independent Examinations Board (IEB)
  • Cambridge International Certificate of Education (ICE)

Curriculum Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS) is what is being used in South Africa's public schools. The government explains it as a single, comprehensive, and concise policy document introduced by the Department of Basic Education for all the subjects listed in the National Curriculum Statement for Grades R - 12.

Independent Examinations Board (IEB) curriculum is used in many private schools in South Africa. The IEB is an independent assessment body offering a range of certified assessments, benchmarked assessments and training.

Cambridge International Certificate of Education (ICE) is an international curriculum and will be recognised globally. Students will then be offered Cambridge International Advanced Supplementary and Advanced Level qualifications.

Check out the graphic below to see which curriculums online schools in South Africa are following when it comes to their online school work.
