Can NSFAS Fund You Twice?

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) announced that students who already studied at a university or obtained a prior university qualification do not qualify for funding.

NSFAS funding has been reserved for first time entering students who are entering the first year of a new programme. However, students who already received a TVET qualification may apply for NSFAS if they wish to study a university qualification for the first time.

Can You Apply For NSFAS Twice?

Students who do not qualify for NSFAS funding may apply for other forms of funding such as university bursaries and scholarships, Fundi, Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme, Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme and bank student loans.

Every university provides its own form of financial aid. Some universities provide extensive booklets detailing bursaries and scholarships, while others have representatives who explain exactly what is available and how to apply. NSFAS are expected to start offering loans to missing middle students.

Fundi is another funding option. It provides students with loans to fund their studies and help make their lives easier.

Students interested in a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) may apply for the Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme.
