Have you applied for the NSFAS bursary but chose the wrong institution on your application? Here's what to do about this.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursary is a government bursary which funds South African students who plan on studying at public universities and TVET colleges.

Applications for NSFAS funding for the 2022 are currently open, so APPLY NOW.

To date, NSFAS has received more than 600 000 applications and they have approved close to 200 000 applications.

If you have already completed and submitted your NSFAS bursary application but you made an error when choosing the institution you plan on going to, NSFAS has said that you do not have to worry about this.

NSFAS says that once you have been approved for funding, you will be funded at the institution you registered at even if you have chosen the wrong institution on your application.

NSFAS is the most sought after tertiary funding in South Africa because it covers the costs of registration, tuition and provides students with various allowances. These allowances cover transport, living expenses and learning materials.

They also provide funding for on-campus and private accommodation for students who live far from the universities which they are registered at.

You must meet the following requirements in order to qualify for the NSFAS bursary:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Can be a SASSA grant recipient.
  • Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum.
  • Persons with a disability whose combined household income is not more than R600 000 per annum.
  • Applicants who first registered at university before 2018 whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.
