The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has released the 2025 Eligibility Criteria and Conditions for the NSFAS Student Loan Scheme. This details if funding is renewed automatically or if students must reapply for funding.

NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at Universities and TVET colleges. Funding covers tuition and registration fees as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.

Hundreds of students will receive NSFAS loans. The government bursary scheme has clarified whether these students will automatically receive a loan in the next academic year or whether they will have to reapply for funding.

NSFAS confirmed that loans are subject to annual renewal. This means that students will not have to reapply for the NSFAS loan annually.

The loan is subject to annual renewal based on academic performance and available budget.

However, NSFAS warned that students must continue to meet the academic conditions for funding throughout their studies to remain eligible for the NSFAS loan.

Acceptance of NSFAS loan funding obligates the beneficiary to repay the loan and adhere to academic conditions throughout the study period.

NSFAS clarified that students who previously benefited from the NSFAS loan but dropped out of their studies must reapply for the NSFAS loan.

NSFAS explained, "students who de-register or drop out during an academic term and wish to resume their studies in future academic terms, must re-apply".
