If you are a student who studied at a TVET college, failed and decide to switch from and enrol at a university, you are probably wondering if NSFAS would still fund your studies. Here’s what the bursary scheme has to say about that.

As most students looking to fund their tertiary studies know, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has the sole mandate of providing funding to tertiary students who come from financially disadvantaged households.

NSFAS funding is for students who are attending or planning to attend one of the 50 public TVET Colleges or 26 public Universities in South Africa.

But what happens if you are a former NSFAS funded TVET college student who, after not completing their studies, decided to enrol and register to study at a University?

NSFAS says :

When you change from college to university we require a student to apply for funding. We require a student to meet our 50% pass rate of subjects/ modules for funding to continue.

This means that NSFAS funded students who failed to obtain a qualification at a TVET college and would like to enrol at a university can still qualify for funding as long as they meet the requirements stipulated by NSFAS.

Once you have been approved the NSFAS bursary will provide allowances that will cover the costs of tuition, registration, accommodation, transport, meals and other living costs.
