Your matric mock exams and finals play a significant role in your future so it is understandable if you are feeling anxious about them. It is crucial to note that too much stress is bad for your health so if your stress becomes too overwhelming to handle you will need to speak to someone.

What is important is learning how to channel your emotions productively into your studies so you can concentrate on your academics and be successful.

These are tips that will help you control your nerves:

  • Try to make sure that you follow your study timetable and remain on top of your work as best as you can so that you don't have to worry about content that you might have forgotten about because you were
  • Eat a healthy balanced diet as fatty and sugary food make your body feel exhausted. The body requires nutrients to function to its full potential. Once it has those nutrients it makes it slightly more manageable to deal with those nerves.
  • Stress balls and putty are super helpful to get all that pent up stress out and into something else.
  • Sleep! Staying up all night cramming is going to make you feel even more anxious during exams. Sleeping helps ensure that you retain all the knowledge you have learnt and gives your body the much needed break.
  • Take breaks! If you don't take breaks while you are studying it will lead to you getting burnt out and feeling heavy.
  • Exercising is imperative! It will provide you with this fresh calm feeling and you will be rejuvenated. Going for a run, or taking your dog for a walk, will be very beneficial.
  • Be kind to your mind! Fight negative thoughts and replace them with positive affirmations. For example: ‘I’m so dumb, I shouldn’t even bother trying’ instead try saying, ‘I am not too confident in this section but I will do my best.’

The last tip is probably the simplest one but the most important. Remember to breathe! Breathwork is critical especially if you are prone to anxiety attacks.

Your final exams are incredibly meaningful but remember to not be too hard on yourself.

Good luck for your exams!
