When submitting a SARS application, you will be required to upload necessary documents. Here is how you can upload supporting documents on SARS e-filing.

If your return has been verified you'll receive a letter from SARS informing you that your return has been identified for verification.

Process:

  • To begin go to www.sars.gov.za.
  • Login to e-filing.
  • Enter your username, then click next.
  • Enter your password. You are now on your e-filing landing page.
  • Click on returns on the top right hand side of your screen.
  • Click returns history on the left hand side of your screen- this opens a submenu with all the taxes you have registered for on e-filing.
  • Click on personal income tax ITR12.
  • Select the year for which you need to submit supporting documents and click open. You are now on your income tax work page.
  • On the far right hand side under SARS notifications you will see a link to a number of letters. Click on the link to take you to the letter or letters.
  • The screen now displays the letter or letters you have received from SARS. Click view to open the relevant letter. The letter will indicate which supporting documents to upload.
  • Now click returns history and then personal income tax ITR12 on the far right hand side.
  • Click open to select the year for which you need to submit the documents. This takes you back to your income tax work page.
  • Go to supporting documents in the middle of your screen and click documents for review. You are now on the page supporting documents for return submissions. Make sure you have all the documents saved in the correct format on your computer or laptop. Click Choose file to select a document from your computer or laptop and then click upload.
  • Once you have uploaded all the required documents you can then click Submit to size at the bottom of the screen. A message will appear asking you if you are sure that these are all the documents you wish to submit to SARS - ok or cancel if you want to upload more documents.
  • Once you have clicked submit to SARS you will not be able to upload any more documents unless you receive correspondence from SARS requesting additional documents. If you are sure click OK if not click cancel and you can add more documents for upload.
  • After clicking ok you'll go back to your income tax work page under supporting documents the status will show submitted.
  • You can now log out of e-filing or use other e-filing services.

Thank you for submitting your supporting documents.
