The University of the Free State (UFS) is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in South Africa. If you’re interested in furthering your studies at the UFS, here is how you can apply.

With two diverse campuses in Bloemfontein and one in Qwaqwa, the University of the Free State is home to seven faculties accommodating more than 40,000 students.

Your eligibility for admission for a study programme at the UFS will only be assessed once you submit certified academic transcripts and complete the UFS application form, and a certified copy of your passport have been received.

Applications to study at the University of Free State us free and can be completed online by visiting https://apply.ufs.ac.za.

It is advisable to keep your mobile phone number and email address active, as you will require both to access and complete the online application form.

Documents required for application submission:

  1. Your ID if you are a South African citizen.
  2. Your passport if you are an international student.
  3. Your parent’s ID or passport if you are younger than 18.
  4. Your final Grade 11 results with the school’s stamp.

You will have to proceed through all the following steps to successfully submit your electronic application:

  4. Contact Information
  5. Study Choices
  6. Selection Information
  7. Uploads
  8. Agreement
  9. Complete

Make sure that you complete the application form properly, and if you need on-campus residence accommodation or financial aid, indicate this in the relevant section.

Each prospective student must complete the online application and submit all required documentations, and once your online application has been submitted and processed you will receive a student/reference number.
