Choosing a university is a very important decision which requires you to do research and compare your options. While doing research about different universities, it is important to consider both short-term and long-term needs and goals.

Research the Course

Knowing which course or programme you would like to pursue is important as it determines which universities you can choose from. In addition, do some research to see if the universities offer you internship programmes which are necessary for many courses before you can apply for a job.

Make Use of University Rankings

Making use of the university rankings allows you to make an informed decision about which university to choose. Universities are ranked in various ways, however, it would be most important to check how the universities are ranked for your programme.

Scholarships and Bursaries Offered

There are several available funding options which include scholarships, bursaries, grants and student loans. It would be useful to check if the universities offer funding options such as scholarships and bursaries for your programme and if you qualify for them.

Not having to stress about paying tuition fees will allow you to focus all your energy on your studies. As long as you maintain good results, you would continue to qualify for a bursary or scholarship.

Research About Lifestyle

Researching the lifestyle at the university includes seeing what they have to offer in terms of sports, clubs and activities. For some students, extracurricular activities are very important as it shapes their experience at university.

University websites often include a list of extracurricular activities. However, if you are interested in the off-campus lifestyle, it may be beneficial to speak to someone who attends or attended the university.

Campus Facilities and Resources Offered

Research can be done to see which facilities are available on campus. Some universities provide students will access to a gym, library, student accommodation, food services and loads more.

Universities may also offer resources such as tutoring, counselling services, healthcare and many others. The best way to research these facilities and resources would be to attend a university tour, which may be in person or virtual.

University Location

Doing research on the city the university is located in, can help you access what services you have access to. These services include grocery stores, shopping malls and public transport and private accommodation.
