UJ offers various extended humanities degrees and Extended Bcom Degrees, as well as bridging courses for Science, Education, Psychology, and a few more. 

Candidates who do not meet the admission requirements to study for degree programmes can apply for Diplomas or Higher Certificates, serving as bridging courses, which can qualify them to study for degrees. 

Yes, UJ has a number of bridging courses for undergraduate students. UJ offers multiple bridging courses for various qualifications. Here is a list of some of the bridging courses UJ has on offer: 

Bridging Programme In Economics

During this bridging programme, which spans one year, students have the possibility to apply for an Honours Degree in Economics (General). 

To participate in the bridging programme, a student will need to apply for the course which can be done online. 

Bridging Course in Accounting 

UJ offers the opportunity to study Accountancy as a Foundation Course over the period of 1 year. This 1 year course can serve as a bridging course for later on when a student heads into studying Accounting as a degree programme. 

At the end of this bridging course, students will be a awarded a Higher Certificate, as well a grasp on the fundamentals and basics of accounting. 

Paralegal Bridging Programme 

This bridging course offers students a general outline of the South African legal system. The Paralegal Bridging Programme spans over two days and a National Senior Certificate is required. 

Bridging Programme in Financial Management 

The Bridging Programme in Financial Management serves as a Bridging Course, making it easier for a student to gain eligibility to study for a Financial Management degree at the university. 

Bridging Certificate in the Theory of Accounting 

Over the course of 1 year, the Bridging Certificate in the Theory of Accounting will serve as a pre-requisite, which will qualify a student to study for a degree in Accounting. 

As a Foundation Course, the programme will ground students in the theoretical aspects of Accounting, as well as the ethical best-practices of the profession. 

Bridging Programme in Transport and Supply Chain Management 

At the end of this 1 year programme, a student will receive a Higher Certificate in Transport and Supply Management.

This programme can help students attain the necessary qualifications to pursue a degree in Business Management, or any related course of study, as well as provide the foundational knowledge of running a successful business. 

To study the Bridging Courses on offer at UJ, you will require the following: 

  1. A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 30% in the language of teaching and learning
  2. Or a Senior Certificate (SC) with at least an F symbol on HG and or E symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning

Students who do not have a the above requirements, but have a National Certificate (Vocational) with at least 40% scored in the language of learning and teaching in terms of the NSC may also apply. 

However, the requirements listed above are not for Advanced Diplomas mentioned.
