Chinese Ambassador Chen Xiaodong addressed the Job Fair 2022, highlighting the major impact Covid-19 had on the world's economy, as well as South Africa's economy where unemployment rates remain high.
The Job Fair was held in Johannesburg and was streamed live via social media platforms where it garnered nearly 50 000 views.
China has been a good partner of South Africa and they aim to actively support the country's economic recovery. It is said the Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Ramaphosa reached important agreements on bilateral cooperation over a phone call last month.
The Job Fair is an initiative in efforts to implement those agreements. The event aims to benefit both countries as it creates jobs for South Africans and also provides Chinese enterprises with the opportunity to hire local talents and develop local communities.
More than 100 Chinese-invested enterprises pledge to provide 20 000 jobs directly for South Africans in the next three years in contribution towards South Africa's socioeconomic development.
Ambassador Chen stated that the two countries will work together on 5G, digital economy, high-tech, e-commerce, smart cities, clean energy, vaccine production and other areas.
