You might have heard it again and again, maybe from your guidance counselor or friends or family, "What are you going to do with a degree in the Humanities? You can't make any money with that." The truth is, a degree in the humanities opens up several career opportunities.

A humanist is someone who studies the humanities – subjects such as history, literature, language and philosophy. A humanist is open minded, engaged in discourse and inquiry, rigorous, fair-minded, respectful of good ideas wherever they may come from and willing to admit that certain questions are beyond the scope of their expertise.

Let's be honest. Not too long ago, if you studied humanities and went on to get a bachelor or masters degree, you probably weren't sure what to expect for your life after college.

The human experience is full of meaning, and people who are able to see the essences within our society are able to aid in bringing about change. Humanities plays such a huge and important role in our day-to-day lives, ranging from education to technology and beyond. The applications of humanities extend far beyond our world, which is why this degree can potentially help you to open doors that would otherwise be closed to you.

The good news about what to do with a humanities degree is that this degree can take you very far. That's because humanities degrees have a wide variety of options that allow students to pursue their interests from history to art history, language development and linguistics, ethics, religion and more.

The degree itself offers many opportunities in many fields. For example, the study of philosophy helps you look at topics like logic, ethics, and argumentation. These skills can be used to help educate others as a teacher or tutor, or to help people understand things better through public speaking.
