Every month, millions of people receive social grant payments from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa)

Grants distributed by Sassa include the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, War Veterans Grant, Care Dependency Grant, Foster Child Grant, Child Support Grant, Child Support Grant Top-Up, and Grant-in-Aid. Sassa is also responsible for the Social Relief of Distress grant, which many know as the SRD grant or the R370 Sassa grant.

It's important for Sassa beneficiaries to know when to expect their Sassa grant payment for the month.

Sassa Grant Dates For December 2024

Sassa typically pays permanent social grants during the first week of the month, starting from the second working day. It’s important to note that Sassa does not process payments on weekends or public holidays.

For December 2024, Sassa grant payments will begin on Tuesday, 3 December, starting with older persons' grants. All other social grant payments will follow throughout the first week of December.

Here are the Sassa grant payment dates for December 2024:

  • Older Persons Grant - 3 December 2024
  • Disability Grants - 4 December 2024
  • Children's Grants - 5 December 2024

SRD Grant Payment Dates For December 2024

With the last week of December including Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years Day, Sassa's spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi, has said that beneficiaries can expect SRD grants to be paid earlier.

December 2024 SRD grant payments are set to be paid to approved grant applicants between 17 December and 23 December 2024. 

Beneficiaries are urged to check their SRD status on the official SRD website to determine the exact date their grant will reflect in their bank accounts.

Where to Collect Your Sassa Grant

Beneficiaries have the flexibility to receive their grants electronically, directly deposited into their bank accounts. Alternatively, they can opt for cash withdrawals from ATMs or convenient retail outlets such as Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, and Boxer.
