The Midvaal Local Municipality in Meyerton is inviting motivated and disciplined individuals to apply for its Fire Fighter Internship Programme. This exciting opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience in firefighting, rescue operations, and emergency response — ideal for those passionate about serving their community and pursuing a career in fire and rescue services.
 

The municipality has made 12 internship positions available under the reference MN 4009/25. Successful candidates will gain practical exposure and training in a dynamic and high-performance environment.

Fire Fighter Internship Requirements
 

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
  • Firefighter 1 & 2, Hazmat Awareness and Operations (or equivalent)
  • First Aid Level 3 or Basic Ambulance Course
  • Valid Code C Driver’s Licence
  • Medically and physically fit to perform operational duties
  • Ability to swim
  • Free from phobias such as claustrophobia or acrophobia
  • Experience or knowledge in fire and rescue services (advantageous)
  • Hardworking, self-disciplined, and reliable
  • Previous internship experience of at least 3 months will be an advantage

Key Responsibilities

Fire Fighter Interns will assist senior personnel and gain exposure to a range of operational and administrative firefighting duties, including:

  • Responding to instructions and daily operational tasks from the Station Officer
  • Attending work shifts and maintaining readiness for deployment
  • Inspecting and testing firefighting vehicles and equipment
  • Cleaning and maintaining operational equipment
  • Reporting malfunctions and defects to the duty officer
  • Assisting in extinguishing fires and conducting rescue operations under supervision
  • Combating grass, wildland, and structural fires
  • Protecting property and equipment from fire-related damage
  • Supporting control room operations when required
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by superiors

Remuneration and Contract Details

Successful candidates will be appointed on a three-year contract with a monthly stipend of R8 786.58 (equivalent to R105 439.00 per annum).

Preference will be given to applicants from the Sedibeng region as well as candidates who contribute to the municipality’s employment equity targets. Individuals with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
